Hermann Zapf

Born November 8th, 1918 in Nuremburg, Germany. Taught himself calligraphy from books by Rudolf Koch and Edward Johnston. Book and type designer since 1938. Professor for typographic computer programmes, Rochester Institute of Technology. Guetenberg Prize, Mainz. Euro Design Award, Oostende. Hon. Royal Designer for Industry, Royal Society of Arts, London. Hon. Doctor of Fine Arts, University of Illinois. Hermann's work is in the Fitzwilliam Collection of Contemporary Calligraphy in Cambridge.
