CLAS National Diploma in Calligraphy

The Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society National Diploma in Calligraphy is the backbone of the CLAS Ladder of Progress, with its three levels of Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced.

The Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society National Diploma in Calligraphy has been administered, funded, marked and assessed by CLAS since 1994. During that time many students of calligraphy all over the world have submitted their work for marking and assessment by Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society Teaching Honoured Fellows. They have realised the benefits of having a goal to work towards, the advantages of having their work considered at an international level, and the help which is given in the detailed comments of the assessors enabling further progress.

The Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society National Diploma in Calligraphy is not a course, but an assessment procedure, and is for students of calligraphy in the Western tradition based on the Roman alphabet.

Work for the CLAS National Diploma in Calligraphy is submitted in modules. There are three at Foundation level, four at Intermediate and five at Advanced. For the annual assessment these modules can be submitted individually, in groups, or all at once. There is also the opportunity to repeat a module to improve marks.
